Things That Keep Me Happy in a "Mean" World

From terrorist attacks and shootings to ISIS and bombings, the world has seemed extra scary these past few months. It seems like whenever I go on Facebook or watch the news there is more coverage of another horrible event that has killed innocent people from all over the globe. It just isn't right. My heart goes out to those impacted by these events, and I've been struggling to have faith in our world these past few weeks. I thought today I would make a post about the things that make me happy and positive in the midst of troubled times... I hope these inspire you to stay happy and hopeful in a time that can be quite dark <3 I love you all!

1. Laughter - I try to laugh as much as I can! Even when times are rough, smiling and laughing can improve my mood super fast. Try to laugh as often as you can because it will give you a happier view of the world :)
And hey, you might as well die laughing if you can! ;)
2. Stickers - I find joy in really small things (but I think that can be a really good thing at times!)... including stickers! I love to collect really adorable ones for crafts and my planner, so looking at all the amazing stickers out there makes me really happy :D

3. Positivity - In a world that seems so mean and scary, it is essential to focus on the light and not the dark. The news seems to only talk about the bad things that are happening, but believe it or not, there are just as many good things happening!!! I try to focus on only the positive things, and this helps me stay happy.

4. Old movies - When I'm really down about the world or situtations in my life, I love to watch my favorite old movies. These include Disney movies, The Princess Bride, The Princess Diaries, etc. They can always cheer me up! :)

5. Reading - Sometimes you need to get sucked into another world when our reality seems like a mess. <3

6. Spending time with those I love - Talking to family and friends will always make you happier!!!! No matter the situation, the people you love will always be there for you <3

7. Living every day like it will be my last - This may sound dark, but I try to make every day count. Instead of watching tv all day, etc. I attempt to make every day as amazing as it can be! :)

8. Love - Self love, relationships, etc. all fit into this category. It is so important to show love to everyone around you so that peace and joy can be spread throughout the world <3 It is also important to trust God and His love for you!
Come on everyone; spread the love!
9. Food - I'm a foodie, so food will always make me happy! I love trying new things and cooking new recipes.... This makes me cheerful on even the gloomiest days.

10. Memories - No matter how dark a day may be, looking back on photos, scrapbooks, old videos, etc. allows me to remember all the amazing memories I have created throughout my life. I totally recommend this if you need a quick pick me up :)

How I Clean My Makeup Brushes

Hey cupcakes! As someone who loves makeup, I know how important it is to keep your makeup brushes clean... However, I didn't always keep my brushes clean.

After seeing a ton of products for cleaning brushes, I realized just how essential it is to keep your brushes dirt, oil, etc. free! If you don't clean your brushes, I really really REALLY suggest doing so... It will help your face stay clear and avoid bacteria growing in places it shouldn't :P Here is my routine for cleaning all of my makeup brushes :) Enjoy!

1. I suggest cleaning your makeup brushes AT LEAST once every two weeks... I usually try to clean them more frequently, but when I'm busy, this will do. First, you need to select all of the brushes you are going to clean.
I suggest all or your most frequently used!
2. Next, you will need to clean your brushes! I usually use regular soap, but you can purchase soap made just for brushes. Here's my method to get all the gross stuff off (but there are tons of other methods that work just as good!):

  • Run the water in a nice warm/hot temperature
  • Squirt some soap into one palm
  • Put the brush into the water and swirl around in the soap in your palm
  • After swirling it around for a bit, rinse it off in the water
  • Repeat if the brush is especially dirty

3. Spread out the hairs of the brush, and let dry on a hand towel.

4. Ta-da! Your brushes will be dry and ready to make you over again soon! :)

Recipe: Frozen Hot Chocolate

Hey cupcakes! Last year I did a post about how I had tried Tim Horton's Frozen Hot (read that review here). I was looking through some food posts on Pinterest the other day, and I found a recipe for some frozen hot chocolate! I knew I just had to try it! :P
This recipe is AMAZING (see original version here)! It tastes exactly like hot cocoa (except frozen!) and only takes a few minutes to whip up. I think it is the perfect Tim Horton's Frozen Hot Chocolate dupe! <3
What You Need
-Cute mug :P
-Packet of hot chocolate mix (this can be reegular or specialty flavors)
-1/2 cup milk
-1 cup ice
-Whipped cream (optional)

What To Do
1. Put the packet of mix, milk, and heaping cup of ice into the blender.

2. Blend everything together until there are no chunks of ice!

3. You can add more milk if you want, but I found that 1/2 cup is a good amount.

4. Pour into a cute mug, top with whipped cream, and enjoy!!!! :D

This beverage is awesome for the summer months and will keep you nice and cool in the heat. :) What is your fav summer beverage? Comment below and don't forget to follow! <3

How to: Ombre Nails

Hey cupcakes! I feel like I haven't done a nail tutorial on The Chic Cupcake in awhile... So here is a perfect nail design for the summertime: ombre! While this manicure (or pedicure) looks like it is difficult to achieve, it is actually super easy! Let's get started! :D

1. Start out with removing any nail polish on your nails as well as cutting/filing them to the desired shape.

2. The next thing you need to do is find a triangular makeup sponge. You can find these at the Dollar Tree, or can even cut a rectangular sponge!

3. Pick out the two or three (or four!) colors you would like to ombre onto your nails. These can be varying shade of the same color or different colors altogether!

4. To get the ombre effect onto your nails, you can do one of two things:
  • Apply the nail polish onto a surface like plastic wrap and mix the edges to create the desired effect. Dab the sponge onto the polish and then onto your nails!
  • Apply nail polish directly on the sponge and then onto your nails!

5. Clean up the edges of the nails and your fingers using a Q-tip and nail polish remover.

6. Let dry!!!!!!! And ta-da, you have gorgeous ombre nails for the summertime! :D

These colors together are amazingggggg

My Summer Music Playlist

Hey cupcakes! During the summer months, I love to find new music to listen to! Spotify is an awesome way to find new music, so I thought I would share with you all my favorite songs for the summer! :D Let's get started!

1. "Remedy" by Adele - This song is lesser known than some of Adele's other songs, but I LOVE this song so much! It is great to get ready to in the morning ;)

2. "La Da Dee" by Cody Simpson - I have no idea if this is a recent or old song, but I think it is super fun for the summer! It has such a beach party vibe to it!

3. "Got Me Feelin' Like" by Trevor Moron - This song has a great beat and is super catchy... So perfect for some summer chillin'!

4. "Lost Boy" by Ruth B - I love love LOVE this song! It is a slower song, but I think the lyrics and melody are just gorgeous (plus, it is the perfect vocal range for me :P )!

5. "Kill Em With Kindness" by Selena Gomez - I've always really liked Selena Gomez, and this song is a great tune to listen to during the summer!

6. "Cheap Thrills" by Sia - This is one of my favs! Sia has some incredible songs, and this one is a great summer one! :)

7. "Gold" by Owl City - This song is really old, but I still love it! It has a great melody to it, and I really recommend giving it a listen!

8. "Dangerous Woman" by Ariana Grande - This song is uber popular right now, and I really like it!

9. "Rockstar" by A Great Big World - I found this song a few years ago, and I still love it! You all should totally listen to it!!!!!!

DIY: Make Your Own Stickers!

Hey cupcakes! In my recent summer haul (you can read that post here), I told you all that I bought a new planner.... I have been obsessed lately with decorating my planner and planning out my life; it makes me so much more organized and accomplish so much more! :) While shopping for some supplies, I realized just how expensive stickers can be! I knew there had to be a cheaper way... And there is! Here's how you can make your own stickers for all your crafting needs:

What You Need
- A computer/laptop with Microsoft Word
- A printer (laser or inkjet)
- Sticker paper: At craft stores, you can buy some pricey sticker paper... But, I found a ten pack of full sheet label paper at Walmart for only $4.50! :)
This is the kind that I use! :)
- Images of what you want the stickers to be

1. First, you need to open up a blank Word document on the computer. Custom set the margins to be about 0.1 - 0.2" on top, bottom, left, and right (this allows you to cover the whole sheet and not waste any sticker paper!).
Go down to the very bottom where it says "Custom Margins"
2. Now, you need to find images. You can use clipart, Google images, free downloads, and pretty much any other image you find if you have the Snipping Tool to take screenshots.
This tool allows you to copy images from any website (just make sure you don't sell them so you don't get into trouble with copyright or anything).
3. After copying or saving the image, insert it into your Word document. If you want to move the image around freely, make sure to wrap the image behind the text (this makes it easier to fit a TON of stickers on one page).

4. When the sheet is covered with stickers, print onto the sticker paper (make sure to insert the paper the right way into the printer!).

5. When you want to use one of the stickers, simply cut it out and take the backing off. Ta-da! A unique and perfect sticker for any crafting needs! :)

I have been mildly obsessed with making stickers these past few weeks, and it allows me to use the exact images I want instead of buying expensive ones that aren't exactly what I'm looking for. Plus, making them is super fun! :D
What stickers are you going to make? Comment below and don't forget to follow! :D

Tips to Throw a KILLER 4th of July Party!

Hey cupcakes! I love love LOVE the Fourth of July; there's family fun, awesome food, and (of course!) the fireworks! Many people like to go camping during the holiday weekend, but I know a lot of others who enjoy barbeques with family and friends. If you are hosting your own party, here are some tips and tricks to host the party of the year! :)

1. Go all out with red, white, and blue food - ONLY have foods in these colors :) I know it might sound crazy, but it will look awesome when you set all your food out. From fruit to hot dogs to cupcakes, this won't leave anyone hungry.

Get creative!
2. Put out yard games as well as lawn chairs - While some people like to sit around and chat all night, putting out some fun games is sure to impress the kids. :)

3. Use sparklers NOT fireworks - Fireworks can be pretty dangerous, so I recommend using sparklers. They are tons more fun because they last longer (plus, you can take some pretty legit photos!!!).

4. Have a "spirit" contest - Have everyone wear as much red, white, and blue that they can and see who decks out the most! :P
Could you rock this??? ;)
5. Make a s'mores bar - After you eat dinner and have a great time with friends, spend the night around a bonfire!!! :D Make a s'mores bar with all types of candies, marshmellows, etc. and eat the sweets all night!

What are you doing for the Fourth of July? Comment below and don't forget to follow! :D Have a safe and awesome day! <3

5 Hairstyles for the Summer Season

Hey cupcakes! The summer time is upon us, and the days are hot, hot, HOT! To make sure you stay cool (yet stylish) this season, the perfect hairdo is needed..... Today I wanted to share with you all my top 5 fav hairstyles for the summer; let's get started!

1. Side braids - These are a must for the summer time! They are super fast, keep your hair out of your face, and allow you to wear a hat/visor in the heat.
Even Elsa rocks the side braid ;)
2. Waves - Summer = beaches = beachy waves. My hair is a bit naturally wavy, so I like to use mousse in my wet hair to make the waves even more defined; perfect for summer! :)

3. Top knot - These can be fancied up with braids or a fast and quick bun. So easy and a great way to stay cool!

4. Low ponytail - Instead of the high ponytail, I like low ponytails during the hot months. Bows look super cute in them too! :)

Embrace your inner Hermione Granger! :P
