What I Learned from my Summer Internship

Hey cupcakes! My internship is officially over :'( As I revealed way back in March in my 10 Things You Probably Don't Know About Me post, I accepted an internship with PwC this summer. I had an absolute blast working with this company, and I wanted to share some of the insights I learned throughout my experience. As I moved to a city far from home, I thought a post like this may be helpful to any of you who will be interning in the near future. :)

1. I am an adult now! - Even though I finished my junior year of college, I never truly felt like an adult at college or at the beginning of this summer. After moving away, getting my own apartment, and having an actual job with a good salary, I actually feel like an adult. It is totally weird. Not gonna lie, it did take some time to get used to, but I am so happy that I now feel confident taking the world by storm!

2. Having your own apartment is amazing - I am so used to sharing a room at college, so having my own place over the summer was a blessing. I got to keep it clean whenever I pleased (unlike at school when my roommate is low-key a slob haha), cook healthy meals for myself, and just take the initiative to live my best life. :)

3. Driving in a city is no fun - I interned in a relatively small city (and will be working in that same city after I am finished with school) so my daily commute wasn't that bad. However, I had to go to a larger city a couple of hours away occasionally for trainings and such, and I HATE TRAFFIC SO MUCH. But I guess it validates my decision to live in a smaller city haha...

4. Don't waste your time on screens - I learned this summer just how much time I stare at screens. I would stare at my work computer from 9-5 and then would come home and find myself staring at either my laptop or my phone wayyyy too often. This definitely made me more conscious of the fact that we only have a short time in this world; so take advantage of it and go do stuff!!!

5. Cities help with sustainable goals - As you all probably know by now, I am trying to live a lower waste lifestyle. While this is possible everywhere, it is definitely easier in cities where there are more farmer's markets, thrift stores, etc. Plus, the city I live in is big on sustainability, which made these practices/habits even easier to keep. Hopefully I will be able to continue them when I head back to college!

6. Work hard, play hard - While I have always been a hard worker, this internship reinforced the idea that the harder you work, the bigger the payoff. Because I worked so hard, I was able to get really good reviews from my supervisors and score another internship offer for next summer :) Put everything you have into what you do!
