Goodbye for Now.... But I'll Still Be Around!

Hey earth muffins! I didn't expect to be writing this post any time soon, but I have made the final decision to put Life of an Earth Muffin on the back burner right now... If you read my recent Updates post, you will know that I just started studying for my CPAs. And, let me tell you, it is quite the time consuming process.

I don't think it is right for me to add extra stress on myself to stick to a posting schedule or right to you all who would be reading less exciting/interesting/"good" content if I rush through my posts.... 😕 So, it seems like the best thing for me is to hold off on this blog for a few months until the exams are done and my masters program is finished.

I PROMISE I will be back (who knows, maybe I will write a post here and there!) - this blog is such a great outlet for me that I would never stop writing on it for good. 😊 Plus, there are a bunch of exciting topics I will be able to write about once I return:

-Success tips for major standardized exams (okay okay probably not exciting to most people)
-Reflections about graduate school
-Moving to a new city to start my career (and finally living with my boyfriend!)
-Actually having an apartment/house to myself to continue my zero waste journey!

I would like to thank you all for the incredible support you have given me, and I hope that you stick around during my absense. ❤️

Review: The Lincoln Log Plaid Holiday Dress from Shinesty

Hey earth muffins! In three days I will be done with my last fall semester EVER! 😱 It's crazy to think that I only have four months of school left in my whole entire life - I am very excited to say the least! To get myself into the Christmas spirit, I thought it would be fun to share a review with you all of this delightful plaid dress from Shinesty... ❤️💚 Let's jump right into it!

What I LOVE:
1. The pattern - Everything about this dress screams the holidays, and I absolutely love that! I am a huge fan of "ugly" Christmas sweaters, holiday themed leggings, and everything in-between, so this pattern definitely gives out some holiday cheer. However, I also love that it doesn't have Santa or reindeer or anything like that on it, as it gives you more opportunity to wear it outside of the holiday season. 👌

2. Long sleeves! A lot of the dresses I own have tank top or short sleeves, which means I am forced to wear a cardigan or jacket when I style the dress. It is winter, so I love that there are long sleeves to keep me warm (as I tend to get cold pretty easily)!

3. The wrap dress style - I love the wrap dress trend, as it fits so many different body shapes and sizes. I stan a versatile garment that doesn't just support the "skinny girl" body stereotype!!

4. The fabric is thick - It seems like the quality of fast fashion garments continues to go down, so I was quite shocked at how thick this dress is. A bonus for keeping me warm in the cold weather 👍

5. The brand is hilarious - I mentioned Shinesty back in my Black Friday post where I featured the leg lamp kimono they sell.... In general, this brand is hilarious with their product line. Their clothing tags say "No MSG added" which made me laugh for probably too long. I would definitely recommend checking out all of the obscure products they sell! 🙃

What Could Be Better:
1. The price - I'm probably just not used to paying good money for clothes now that I thrift 99% of my wardrobe, but I think the prices are kinda high... However, the quality of the actual dress is much better than other websites I've purchased from in the past, so that does signal for a higher price.

2. Only a one season dress - Being on a journey to zero waste, I try to buy clothes that can be worn in multiple seasons. As this dress automatically makes me think of the holidays when I see it, I definitely will only get use of it during a couple months of the year.

3. A bit low cut for me - This is most likely due to the fact that I got a bigger size than usual to ensure that it was long enough and that my boobs are really small. 😂 Just thought I would mention it!

My Top Zero Waste Tips for Surviving Finals Week!

Hey earth muffins! I can't believe it but finals are already here! I had an exam yesterday and have three more to go before I get to head home for the holidays on December 20th. 😊 I am SO pumped to spend some quality time with my family, so I have been powering through all of my studying with that motivation in place. As I am trying to live a sustainable lifestyle, I thought it would be fun to share some of my tips for reducing waste during finals week. Let's jump right into it!

Print practice problems/exams with 2 pages per sheet and double sided. While I suggest not printing practice problems at all, I myself find it more beneficial to actually write out my answers on paper just like it will be during the exam. By printing this way, this allows you to fit four pages onto one piece of paper, which reduces the amount of recycling you have to do at the end of finals.

Bring a reusable water bottle to the library! This not only will help with your studying (as keeping the mind hydrated is key!), but it reduces the temptation to use any plastic water bottles.

Pack your own food and snacks. If you are going to be spending a significant amount of time at a library or other study space outside of your apartment/dorm, take some time to pack yourself food and snacks. 🥨 This will keep your mind focused and also reduce any waste created by grabbing food to-go at a cafe, fast food joint, etc. Plus, I love to pack extremely healthy snacks so that I am not tempted to eat junk foods when I am stressed.

Bring a reusable coffee mug! While I don't drink coffee, I know many college students thrive on coffee during finals week.☕ Instead of throwing away 5-10 coffee cups, use your own mug to save that waste from going to the landfill!

Recycle notes at the end of your exams! One of my favorite things to do at the end of the semester is to recycle all of my notes from classes I will never take again. It is so rewarding to see all of the materials I have learned and to divert this waste from rotting in the landfill. My campus also collects full notebooks to recycle, so take advantage of programs like this at your school!

Recipe: Easy & Delicious Pumpkin Pancakes

Hey earth muffins! After making my own pumpkin puree using the recipe I shared a month ago (read that post here!), I have slowly been using up my frozen purees in different pumpkin recipes. As I already shared my absolute favorite pumpkin chocolate chip cookie recipe with you all a few years ago, I thought I would share my go-to pumpkin pancake recipe with you all today. 😊 Finals are just around the corner for me, so I love to make recipes that remind me of home... And my dad can whip up the BEST pumpkin pancakes. 😍 Let's jump right into it!

What You Need:
-2 cups flour
-1 tablespoon baking powder
-1/4 cup sugar
-2 tablespoons brown sugar
-2 teaspoons cinnamon
-1/2 teaspoon salt
-1.5 cups milk (I use almond milk!)
-1 cup pumpkin puree 🎃
-2 eggs
-2 tablespoons of canola oil

What To Do:
1. In a large bowl, mix together all of the ingredients with a whisk or spatula until combined. Try not to overmix the batter!

2. Heat your griddle or skillet over medium-high heat until it is hot.

3. Spray the griddle or skillet with cooking spray or add a bit of oil/butter so that the batter doesn't stick.

4. Ladle the batter onto the griddle/skillet into whatever pancake size you prefer.

5. When bubbles appear on the top of the pancakes, use a spatula to flip the pancake over.

6. After about 2 minutes, take the pancakes off the heat.

7. Serve with maple syrup and enjoy!! 😃

Life Updates + New Posting Schedule 😃

Hey earth muffins! I hope everyone is having an amazing week so far! I thought that I would share some life updates with you all today, as some changes will be occurring to Life of an Earth Muffin....

First, I will now be posting on Tuesdays and Thursdays instead of Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. I'm sure a few of you noticed me changing to these days last week, but I wanted to make sure I addressed it. My fall semester in grad school is almost over, and I am now starting to study for my CPA exams. As I will be studying for each of the 4 CPA exams (and taking them) from December until July, I figured I would reduce the amount of posts I publish to ensure I have plenty of time to study and don't feel stressed about creating content. Plus, I think that posting twice a week will allow me to write more in-depth posts. 😊

I also will not be using the Life of an Earth Muffin Instagram as much anymore. I used to try to upload a picture every day that I didn't publish a post on this blog, but I'm just not a huge fan of Instagram. But, if I have some cute photos to share then I will definitely still upload them... Just don't expect as much frequent posting. 👍

Lastly, I am thinking about doing a fun giveaway for when I hit 1,000 followers. 🙃 I have about 935 currently (on Google Friend Connect + Bloglovin'), so I would love some suggestions on what you all would like to see me give away!
